最終退氷期における南半球のパタゴニア氷床の後退の立体構造（表面積および厚さ）を26Al・10Beを用いた表面照射年代決定から推定。19kaまではLGMと同程度の大きさであったが、18.1-15.5kaにかけて急激な後退が起き、現在の位置に落ち着いたことが示された。降水をもたらす偏西風の南下と地域的な温暖化とが急激な後退の原因と思われる。

中国の国内外のCO2排出量のうち、57%は生産された省とは別のところで消費されている商品に関連した排出であることが分かった。例えば、炭素排出量の大きい・低品位の商品が中国の富裕な沿岸部で生産され、中部・西部へと輸送されていることなどが示された。こうした省をまたいだ消費活動に関連した炭素の漏れ（leakage）に対しての注目が集まらないと、あまり発展していない地域が排出量を削減するのがより難しくなると思われる。
